20th Anniversary of China-FSM relations reception held in Pohnpei

      On September 15, 2009, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the FSM, co-hosted a reception to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic relations between China and the FSM. Gracing the event were H.E. Mr. and Mrs. Mori, President of the FSM., H.E. Mr. and Mrs. Alik, Vice President, Hon. Mr. and Mrs. Figir, Speaker of Congress, Hon. Secreatry Foreign Affairs Lorin Robert, Hon. Secretary of R&D Peter Christian, Hon. Secretary of TC&I Francis Itimai, Hon. John Ehsa, Governor of Pohnpei State, Hon. Nelson Pelep Speaker of Legislature, heads of diplomatic missions, the local representatives of oversea Chinese and Chinese businessmen together with other 200 guests attended the reception.       Ambassador Zhang extended warm congratulations to the great event of the 20th Anniversary of China-FSM relations. Since the establishment of the diplomatic ties on September 11, 1989, China and FSM relations turned over a new page in the history of the bilateral relations. Both of our governments and peoples witnessed the increasing political trust, expanding economic cooperation, deepening cultural exchanges, active multilateral coordination, growing friendship and great achievements. These achievements should be attributed to the wise leadership and universal support from the peoples. Based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, China is ready to make joint efforts with the FSM side to enhance China-FSM friendship and cooperation to a higher level.

      Secretary Robert presented his compliments to the traditional friendship between the two countries, and expressed his gratitude to those who pioneered and worked hard to establish relations with China. Now the FSM-China relationship is at an important juncture in its 20 years history and is underpinned by shared interests, aspirations and principles such as the one-China policy. FSM is proud to have good friends like China to face the world challenges and would like to have joint aspirations to further develop China-FSM relationship in the years to come.

        Governor Ehsa also extemporized by speaking highly of the friendship between the FSM and China and the Pohnpei state is very proud to host the foreign missions here. He wishes to continue to develop the good relations with China from the state level.

      The reception is co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. During the reception, a large banner reading "Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of China-FSM relations" was hung overhead. Hearing the China and FSM national Anthem, the guest recalled the 20 years' development of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. The guest also enjoyed the Chinese martial arts performance and local traditional dance, while lavishing themselves with the China red wine and local sakau.

      A long banner saying "20th Anniversary of FSM-China Relations" was hung up in the main street in downtown Kolonia Pohnpei.
