Lecture Given by the Chinese Embassy Officials at COM-FSM

On April 4, 2008, at the invitation of Professor John Haglelgam from faculty of sociology College of Micronesia, Mr. YOU Weijun, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy lectured on the economic and social development about China and Taiwan question to students majoring in East-Asia studies. Mr. YOU talked about the achievements that China accomplished over the past 30 years since having the reform and opening-up policy in 1978 and China's foreign policy. On the Taiwan question, Mr. YOU elaborated its origin, the current cross-Strait exchanges, the Chinese Government's principles and the US Government's approaches. He also explained "1992 consensus" and the perspective of cross-Strait relations raised by the students.

Some students pointed out that China is a significant country in Asia. The lecture helped them have better understanding about China and the Taiwan question and broadened their studies.

Prof. Haglelgam used to be President of FSM in early 1990s and is teaching East-Asia study including China's history which is a key part of the subject.
