On January 5, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Wu Wei, Chinese Ambassador to the FSM, met with T.H. Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the FSM Ricky F. Cantero to have an in-depth exchange of views on the development of bilateral relations.

Ambassador Wu stated that under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, based on the one-China principle, China is willing to work with the FSM to advance the China-Micronesia comprehensive strategic partnership, thereby better benefiting the peoples of both nations.

Acting Secretary Cantero affirmed that the FSM side firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and recognizes that there is but one China in the world, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. And the FSM is willing to strengthen people-to-people exchanges, enhance friendship between the two peoples, and deepen practical cooperation across various fields between the two nations.
