The Honorable YANG Jiechi

Minister of Foreign Affairs

People's Republic of China

Dear Minister Yang,

The Federated States of Micronesia and the People's Republic of China will mark the 20th Anniversary of their Diplomatic Relations forged twenty years ago on September 11, 2009. In the ensuing years, our two countries and peoples have worked in a spirit of close and friendly cooperation to translate our shared interests and values into mutually beneficial gains. FSM and China now have a solid relationship based on mutual respect and support for each other's aspirations.

FSM takes pride in its relationship with China, and it is pleased to consistently uphold principles that underpin our friendship such as the one-China policy.

As we celebration this historic achievement between our two countries, I want to offer warm congratulations to you. There is indeed much that deserve our joint celebration, including paying tribute to those who have toiled hard to progress our bilateral relations into one that we fondly called a "model relationship".

At this juncture in our friendship, we are poised to confront increasing challenges that affect the lives of our peoples such as in the areas of climate change, environmental degradation, threats to international peace and security, among others. Through greater resolve, concerted action and continued vigilance, we have a better chance to meeting such challenges and turn them into opportunities for mutual benefits.

Please rest assured of my personal commitment towards these ends and for a stronger FSM-China relations into the future.

                                           Sincerely,

                                                                                                 Lorin S. Robert

                                                                                                      Secretary
