H.E. Mr. Huang Zheng, Chinese Ambassador to the FSM, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. David W. Panuelo, President of the FSM on June 4, 2019. Attendees included T.H. Mr. Yosiwo George, Vice President, T.H. Mr. Lorin Robert, Secretary of Foreign Affairs and T.H. Mr. Carlson D. Apis, Ambassador of the FSM in China, and Mr. Zhang Weitao, Counselor and DCM of the Chinese Embassy in the FSM.

President Panuelo expressed his sincere gratitudes to Chinese President Xi Jinping for the congratulatory message shortly after he assumed the presidency. President Panuelo briefed Ambassador Huang on the visits by the presidents of the FSM, the Marshall Island and Palau to the USA and stressed that the new government of the FSM would firmly adhere to the One China Principle. He thanked China for the long-term selfless assistance to FSM and hoped that China would help FSM achieve financial independence and ensure financial security.

Ambassador Huang emphasized that One China Principle is the fundamental cornerstone of China-FSM relations as well as the basic norms of international law and international relations. China highly appreciates the stance of the new government of the FSM in strictly adhering to One China Principle. Ambassador Huang stressed that in November last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and then-President of the FSM met successfully in PNG and reached an important consensus to upgrade China-FSM relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which charted the course for the future development of bilateral relations. China stands ready to make concerted efforts with FSM President Panuelo and his new government to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership to a new high and jointly pursue the Belt and Road Initiative and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity. China will fully carry out the concept of "granting people how to fish" proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and increase investment in education, healthcare, science and technology to help FSM achieve sustainable development so as to bring more tangible benefits to our two peoples.
