Ambassador LIU Fei welcomed all the guests and said that the Pilot Farm had been sponsored by the Chinese Government since 1998. 5 resident Chinese technicians provide training courses on vegetable farming to the local trainees and people. The project has effectively promoted local agriculture, and helped improve people's livelihood. With the 10 years' hardworking of Chinese agriculture technicians, over 30 kinds of vegetables and melons have been successfully grown locally. Today, they are all available in the market. That a Pohnpei farmer makes a fortune by growing cucumbers is a good example to show that life can be improved by this simple skill. All the women are encouraged to learn from the Chinese agriculture technicians to start their own farming business at home.
