Dear colleagues from the diplomatic corps,

Overseas Chinese in the FSM and from afar,

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Kamorale! Good evening! 大家晚上好!

Kalanghan en koaros pwek ahr ket de pahto ni reception wet! Thank you for joining us tonight to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 35th anniversary of China-FSM diplomatic relations. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in the Federated States of Micronesia, I would like to pay deep respects and courtesy to the traditional leaders, and the people of the FSM, and extend a warm welcome to all the honorable dignitaries present here. Please let me take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to people from all walks of life in both China and the FSM who have long cared about, supported and actively committed to the cause of China-FSM friendship and cooperation, and my sincere greetings to all the Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese in the FSM!

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Over the past 75 years, The Chinese people have achieved remarkable development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Particularly since the new era, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China has won the largest battle against poverty in human history and realized the First Centenary Goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. China is now going all out to build a great modern socialist country in all respects and pursue national rejuvenation through a Chinese path to modernization.

China’s economic growth has made a historic leap. As the world’s second largest economy, China is an important engine of global development with its contribution to the world economic growth exceeding 30%. China has become the world’s largest trader in goods, second largest consumer market and the largest country in foreign exchange reserves. China’s GDP grew by 5 percent year-on-year to reach about 61.7 trillion yuan (about 8.6 trillion US dollars) in the first half of this year. China’s economy maintains the momentum of steady growth and long-term positive trend.

China’s industrial development has made big strides forward. China is the only country in the world that has industries across all categories in the UN industrial classification. The size of China’s manufacturing industry has topped the world for 14 consecutive years. China has built the world’s largest and most complete clean energy industrial chain. China’s installed capacity of renewable energy ranks the first in the world. Emerging industries such as intelligent manufacturing, smart logistics, digital commerce, and smart agriculture have delivered outstanding results.

China’s development has been boosted by sci-tech innovation. China has achieved fruitful results in areas such as manned spaceflight, Lunar and Mars exploration, deep sea and deep earth exploration, supercomputers, satellite navigation, quantum information, nuclear power technology, and airliner manufacturing. Just before the Reception, I noticed that many guests watched our display board, seeing the Chang’e-6 completing the first-ever mission of collecting samples from the far side of the moon and returning to the Earth, and the manned submersible Jiaolong having completed 300 times underwater operations. Mega sci-tech projects of China constantly see new progress, and innovation has become the primary driving force of China’s development.

Ladies, gentlemen and friends,

This year’s reception has a special significance. It also marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the FSM. The decision that our leaders took 35 years ago with great vision and wisdom to establish diplomatic relations between China and the FSM, has not only changed our relations in a profound way, but also advanced peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region.

The past 35 years has been a journey of enhancing exchanges and mutual trust. We have witnessed the growth of China-FSM relations from Strategic Partnership to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has advanced the common interests of both countries and peoples. In April this year, H.E. President Simina paid a state visit to China. H.E. President Xi Jinping held friendly talks with President Simina and reached important understandings on deepening China-FSM relations in the new era, opening a new chapter in our friendly cooperation.

The past 35 years has seen fruitful and mutually beneficial results of our friendly cooperation. Many widely recognized projects of China-FSM cooperation such as the FSM National Convention Center, the secondary road of Pohnpei State, bridges, government buildings, and the China-FSM Friendship gymnasiums have become landmark projects of our practical cooperation. China-FSM agricultural technology cooperation project has been moving forward with steady progress, winning extensive recognition. Our two countries are carrying out medical care cooperation, actively contributing to the health and the well-being of our two peoples.

The past 35 years has been enriched by mutual learning and deepened friendship. The two countries have engaged in close interactions at all levels. Sub-national cooperation and sister provinces/states exchanges have flourished and yielded fruitful results. The two sides have constantly sent art troupes to give wonderful performance. It is also glad to see that many students of the FSM once studying in China are now working across all sectors in support of FSM’s nation building and China-FSM friendship, bringing the hearts of our two peoples closer and closer.

The key to the steady and sustained growth of China-FSM relations lies in the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, especially of H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Simina, which charts the right course for our bilateral relations; lies in that the two sides always adhere to mutual respect and equality, firmly support each other on issues involving each other’s core interests. The FSM adheres to the one-China principle, and China supports the FSM to choose the development model and path that suit its own national conditions; lies in that the two sides actively deepen practical cooperation in various fields, sharing opportunities and seeking common development; and also lies in that the two sides always stand shoulder to shoulder through thick and thin and forge a deep friendship, no matter it is the joint fight against the Covid-19 pandemic or natural disasters.

These valuable experiences of the past 35 years is the inexhaustible source of driving force for the development of China-FSM relations, which needs to be cherished and preserved all the more by both sides.

Ladies, gentlemen, and friends,

This year is a crucial year for China’s all-round modernization endeavor. Recently, the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee was successfully concluded. The plenary session lays out systematic plans for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, sending a strong message to the world about China’s steadfast commitment to reform and opening up.

We will not change our resolve to follow the path of peaceful development. On the new journey ahead, China remains firmly committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, and work with countries including the FSM to promote the building of a global community of shared future, and make new and greater contributions to maintaining world peace and promoting common development.

We will not change our initial goal to deepen the friendly relations with the FSM. China will continue to uphold the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith and with the commitment to the greater good and shared interests, and strengthen solidarity and coordination with the FSM under the frameworks such as South-South cooperation and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, so as to jointly promote our common interests.

We will not change our determination to common development with the FSM. We welcome the FSM to get on board the express train of Chinese modernization to share development opportunities and together create a brighter future. We will only open the door even wider to the world. We will embrace the world with open arms and warmly welcome more friends from countries all around the world including the FSM to visit China and learn more about a real China in a multi-dimensional and comprehensive fashion.

Ladies, gentlemen, and friends,

At the new starting point of the next 35 years of China-FSM relations, China is willing to work closely with the FSM to follow through the guidance of the important understandings of the two heads of state, for more deliverables for our friendship and the people’s well-being, and for more practical results in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership built on our past achievements!

Now, I would like to propose a toast:

To the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the FSM,

To the prosperity of China and the FSM and the everlasting friendship between the two peoples,

To the health and family happiness of all guests, ong soren mwahu en peneinei oh peren lap en koaros me ket de pahto ni reception wet,

Kalanghan! Cheers!
