On May 17th, 2021, the Chinese embassy in the FSM, decorated with blooming flowers and ornaments with Chinese elements, held a public diplomacy event for 14 senior students from the Pohnpei Island Central School (PICS) led by their vice principal. The event was part of the Career Week which is held annually by public high schools in Pohnpei State. H.E. Ambassador Huang Zheng, and Counselor Zhang Weitao, Deputy Chief of Mission, among other Embassy staff, attended the event.

Hosted by a young diplomat of the embassy, the event showed three videos to begin with, namely A Bird's Eye View of China, Xi Leads Fight Against Poverty, China-FSM Joint Pursuit of a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity. In particular, China's poverty alleviation efforts brought out a resonance in the audience.

Illustrated with a vivid slideshow, Ambassador Huang Zheng then introduced the basic principles of China's foreign policy, the connotation of the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Chinese embassy's function in various fields. Ambassador Huang stressed that since China and the FSM established diplomatic ties thirty-two years ago, guided by the vision of teaching people how to fish, China has been providing sincere and selfless assistance to the FSM based on the principles of mutual respect, common development and that all countries, big or small, are equal. The friendship between China and the FSM enjoys consistent progress. Ambassador Huang also elaborated on Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy featured with building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity. Ambassador Huang emphasized that the One-China Principle is the fundamental bedrock of the "Great Friendship" between China and the FSM. Ambassador Huang said that youth is the future of a nation, hoping that the FSM's younger generation will deepen its understanding of China and the China-FSM relationship, advance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and create a bright future for themselves as well as the China-FSM Great Friendship.

The ambassador's wife introduced the Chinese government scholarship program and encouraged the youth to study in China. After experiencing Chinese culture by reading such books as China's Foreign Affairs and enjoying some snacks, the students visited the embassy's reception room and visa office and had an exchange with young diplomats, learning about their job responsibilities. At the end of the event, the embassy presented the students and teacher with some souvenirs which have been specially designed with Chinese characteristics to commemorate the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and the FSM.

PICS is the most-known public secondary school in the FSM that has the largest number of students of its kind. During the Career Week, the senior students usually visit government departments and foreign diplomatic missions in an effort to get to know different jobs and their responsibilities and prepare for advanced studies and future career planning.
