On January 26, 2021, Mrs Zhao Yingguang, Wife of Ambassador Huang Zheng, visited the College of Micronesia - FSM (COM-FSM), and donated books and DVDs to the Library of COM-FSM. Mrs Karen Simion, Interim President of COM-FSM, Mrs Jennifer Heliesar, Director of the Library, along with some other faculty members, attended the handover ceremony.

In her remarks, Mrs Zhao said that it is a great pleasure to come to COM-FSM for a book donation at the beginning of the new semester and new year of 2021, a year of new hope for all. The more than 240 books and DVDs cover many aspects of China such as literature, art, history, custom, geography, economy and society. She is confident that these newly published books will enlarge and diversify the collection of the Library, open a window for the students to explore China's long history, rich culture and modern development and make their Chinese language learning more fun.

Mrs. Zhao also talked about the good relations enjoyed by the Embassy and COM-FSM in retrospect. The multipurpose gym built 20 years ago and the Chinese pilot farm of COM-FSM site opened in 2019 both tell  the story of the long friendship. Moreover, people-to-people exchanges have increased in recent years, bringing the two nation's hearts and minds closer. In 2019, a delegation from Hainan University, China visited COM-FSM and some students from COM-FSM are now studying in Hainan University. "Although cultural and educational exchanges decreased due to COVID-19, we are optimistic in hoping that they will be vigorously resumed and enhanced after the pandemic ends." said Mrs. Zhao.

Mrs Zhao further encouraged young students to make use of the Chinese Government Scholarship program to pursue higher learning in China and also encouraged faculty members to go to China for workshops and training courses on numerous subjects. "One would surely discover the beauty of China when they see and experience it personally." she expressed her sincere wish that the young generation could be an envoy of mutual understanding and carry on the longlasting China-FSM great friendship into the future.

Interim President Simion extended her appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for the exquisite book donation, which will surely enrich the learning resources and benefit the students. She noted that the Chinese teaching materials including the dictionaries will greatly facilitate the students' learning of the language and culture. She expressed her thanks in particular to the experts from the Chinese Pilot Farm in COM-FSM for teaching the students majoring in agriculture and helping the local community. Mrs. Simion said that some outstanding COM-FSM graduates went to China for further study, and after coming back, they've been active in various posts making contributions to FSM. COM-FSM will always welcome its Chinese counterparts' visits and communication and hope to see more exchanges taking place after the pandemic.
