On May 6, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a virtual meeting with Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Wang Yi said, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Indonesia relations have withstood the test of the COVID-19 pandemic and injected positive energy into the pandemic response and development in the region and beyond, with the strategic nature and high level of China-Indonesia relationship being more and more evident and the sense of a community with a shared future growing day by day. We are true friends and reliable partners. China is ready to make joint efforts with Indonesia to deepen the new pattern of bilateral relations featuring "four-wheel drive" of political, economic, cultural and maritime cooperation, advance the respective development process of the two countries, better cope with various international challenges, and make greater contributions to world peace and development.

Wang Yi pointed out, China acted on the philosophy of putting people and their lives front and center, and China's pandemic prevention and control measures, which are science-based, effective and in line with its national conditions, have protected the health and safety of the Chinese people. China congratulates Indonesia on its positive outcomes in pandemic prevention and control. China will continue to provide vaccine assistance for Indonesia, support enterprises of the two countries in cooperation on localized vaccine production, and work with Indonesia to jointly develop vaccine and gene research centers, and conduct closer cooperation in active pharmaceutical ingredients and other fields, so as to jointly forge an enhanced version of health cooperation between the two countries in the post-pandemic era.

Wang Yi said, China is ready to work with Indonesia to push the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway to be completed and opened to traffic as scheduled, build the Two Countries Twin Parks into the first demonstration parks for innovative development of economy and trade between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, promote new achievements in maritime cooperation, and foster more growth drivers for cooperation in the fields of green development, digital economy, infrastructure financing and food security, so as to forge an upgraded version of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Wang Yi stressed, the ASEAN-centered regional cooperation architecture has formed in East Asia, which is the key to maintaining peace and stability in the region. The U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy moves against the trend of the times as well as the common and long-term interests of regional countries. By activating the Five Eyes, it is advocating the old-fashioned Cold War mentality. By establishing QUAD, it is creating new bloc confrontation in the region. By promoting AUKUS, it is essentially provoking an arms race in the region. China believes that whether regional cooperation expands into the Pacific Ocean or the Indian Ocean, its focus should be on East Asia and its engine should be ASEAN. No matter what regional strategy is proposed, the purpose should be mutual benefit and win-win results rather than a zero-sum game. Both China and Indonesia are representatives of emerging economies. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Indonesia in this regard to jointly safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in the region and the legitimate rights of all regional countries to seek development and revitalization.

Wang Yi said, China firmly supports Indonesia in hosting the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit, pushing for outcomes of the Bali Summit on issues such as global health, energy transition and digital transformation, and making positive contributions to addressing the challenges in the post-pandemic era.

Wang Yi said, in light of the various security challenges facing the world today, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Security Initiative (GSI), which gives explicit answers to questions of our times such as what security concept the world needs and how countries can achieve common security. The GSI and the Global Development Initiative (GDI) echo each other, meet the expectations of all countries in the world for peace, development and win-win cooperation, strike a balance between peace and development, the two major issues of the times, lay stress to promoting sustainable security by sustainable development, and inject new impetus into promoting global development and security. China is ready to work with Indonesia to promote the implementation of the GSI through bilateral and multilateral cooperation, carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, and find a path that ensures security for all, by all and of all.

Luhut thanked China for its comprehensive and strong support to Indonesia in fighting the pandemic, and said that the cooperation between the two countries to overcome the challenge of the pandemic has been further promoted, showing that the two sides are a community with a shared future through thick and thin. Indonesia is ready to continue cooperation with China on vaccines and public health, deepen Belt and Road cooperation, promote cooperation in strategic projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway, the Two Countries Twin Parks, the green industrial park in North Kalimantan and infrastructure construction, and properly implement maritime cooperation projects, so as to further benefit the people of both sides. Indonesia hopes that the two sides will promote in-depth cooperation in education, culture, media and other fields to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Indonesia welcomes the GDI and the GSI put forward by President Xi Jinping and stands ready to participate actively in the two important initiatives. Indonesia and China can cooperate to defeat the pandemic, achieve greater development and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. Indonesia appreciates China's support for Indonesia's hosting of the G20 Summit, and will work with other parties to ensure that this year's summit plays a constructive role in the global economic recovery.

Luhut stressed, solidarity and cooperation between Indonesia and China will help us jointly overcome the various difficulties and challenges at present, and the mutually beneficial and win-win nature of bilateral relations will provide important guidance for cooperation among developing countries. Wang Yi expects and believes that China-Indonesia relations will become an exemplary model of mutual benefit, win-win results and common development, as well as a vanguard of South-South cooperation.
