Remarks by the Chinese Embassy Spokesperson on News about the FSM Politician's Letter Concerning China

We noted some media's reports on the Federated States of Micronesia's individual politician's letter concerning China. We are shocked by the news about the negative remarks concerning China in the letter which are a clear misrepresentation of facts and full of slanders against China-FSM friendship. We firmly oppose to any word or behaviour against the one-China principle unveiled in the letter. The Letter revealed that some FSM individual politician breaks the serious political commitments which he made to China for multiple times, makes official contact with Taiwan authorities and seeks official relation with Taiwan region, which seriously violates the one-China principle. China firmly rejects any official communications between the FSM and Taiwan region in any forms and firmly opposes any slanders against Chinese diplomatic and commercial activities.

It is China's consistent stance that all countries, big or small, are all equal. When developing friendly relations with PICs including the FSM, China has always upheld justice while pursuing shared interests and follow the principle of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith. Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties with the FSM, China has always respected the FSM's efforts to defend peace, unity and prosperity, while successive governments of the FSM have greatly valued and adhered to the one-China principle. The FSM and China have always upheld mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development, deepened political mutual trust, and delivered fruitful practical cooperation, bringing tangible benefits for both countries and their people.

With profound changes unfolding in our world, developing countries including the FSM and China should grasp the pulse of its future, keep in mind the indelible poignant memories about the invasion by foreign colonialist powers, jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, firmly observing the basic norms governing international relations, such as upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and practicing non-interference in other countries' internal affairs. China is known to be a defender for world peace, a contributor of global development and an upholder of international order. China is a reliable partner for developing countries, and China's development creates opportunities for the world. China urges relevant people in the FSM to stop sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and bring the bilateral relation back on the track of the one-China principle universally supported by the international community, and take concrete actions to defend the Great Friendship between our two countries.
