Chinese Embassy in FSM Holds Farewell Meeting for Chinese Government Scholarship Winners

15 FSM students were offered scholarship to study in China starting from  school year 2014-2015 under the Chinese Government Scholarship program. On August 21, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in FSM invited the Scholarship winners to the Embassy for a special gathering prior to their departure to China.

During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Zhang Lianyun congratulated the scholarship winners and confered the Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship to them.

Mr. Carl Apis, Assistant Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs, expressed his appreciation to Chinese Government for offering such valuable opportunities to FSM students, and spoke highly of the positive role the scholarship program played in developing FSM-China relationship. Based on his experience working in FSM Embassy in Beijing, Mr. Carl Apis offered guidance and suggestions to the scholarship winners concerning their study and life in China.

Counselor Mr. Yang Chenqi of the Embassy encouraged scholarship winners to be supportive to each other and open-minded, so as to overcome the difficulties arising from the differences in language, culture and environment as soon as possible. He also wished them success in their study in China and hoped that the winners could make contribution to the country building of FSM and enhance the friendship between China and FSM through their own endeavors.

Recent years have witnessed the increasing number of FSM applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship as China-FSM friendship grows. Ever since the launch of this program in 1990's, nearly 120 FSM students have been offered scholarship to study in China and many of them have returned to FSM and became professionals in the areas of public office, health, education, business and etc.
