16 FSM Students Won the Chinese Government Full Scholarships for the Year 2008/2009

        In academic year of 2008-2009, 16 students from the Federated States of Micronesia obtained the Chinese Government Full Scholarships, and are matriculated by institutions of higher learning in China. There have been 40 FSM students pursuing their advanced studies in universities and colleges in China, according to the official statistics from the Ministry of Education of China. 16 students are from states of Chuuk, Pohnpei, Yap and Kosrae respectively. One of them is going to do post-graduate study for master's degree. They will major in different subjects, such as International Economics and Trade, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Political Science, Computer Science & Technology, International Law, Stomatology, Preschool Education, Oceanography, Environmental Science, Film Directing, Chinese Language, and Mathematics & Applied Mathematics in 12 universities, including University of International Business and Economics, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Xiamen University, Southwest University, Shandong University, Wuhan University, Beijing Language and Culture University, The Central Academy of Drama, etc. Applicants with no command of Chinese language are generally required to take Chinese language courses for 1 year before assigning to their major studies.

       As for those who wish to enjoy the Full Scholarship program in the coming year, the applicants may apply for the Chinese Government Full Scholarship to the Chinese Embassy in the FSM between January and February every year, after the Embassy sends a note to Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Education of the FSM to notify the academic year's scholarship plan. Department of Foreign Affairs informs Departments of Education of the four states, taking charge of collecting the applications, and sending all application materials to the Chinese Embassy by the end of April.
